1st Ultrasound

A couple of days ago, I had my 1st ultrasound appointment. It was at my OB's office. I thought I was there just for the ultrasound, but they did the whole 1st prenatal visit - which got me a little bit upset. I had to give a urine sample, which I didn't mind. But the next part of the visit had both me and Jerry really upset. The nurse practitioner inserted a speculum and took cervical scrapings to check for STD's. I told her that it wasn't necessary, but she did it anyway. Next she gave me a pelvic exam. I was freaking out by this point because I was so afraid that she might hurt the baby in some way. Let's just say she wasn't the most gentle. I had taken such good care of my lower abdomen, not even sleeping on my stomach (I'm a stomach sleeper btw) for fear of hurting something. And here she comes all pressing on my lower abdomen. After she was finished, I was so mad at myself for letting her do that. I should've stopped her, but everything was so quick and I was just so nervous about the ultrasound.

Anyway...

Above is a picture of our little "grain of rice" with a heartrate of 127. Jerry and I both were in tears when we heard the heartbeat on the ultrasound. I usually don't show my emotions in public, but this was the 2nd time that I've cried in public. The first was when we got the bfp phone call and the second was when we heard the heartbeat. The ultrasound tech said that I have a subchorionic hematoma - a small one. Now I know the source of my bleeding. I haven't bled since then though (knock on wood).

I also had bloodwork done that day. My E2 was 1119 and my P4 was 17.7. Because of the bleeding, CCRM wants me to stay on my current dosage of meds. So I'm still on Prometrium suppositories three times a day, one 2mg Estrace tablet daily, and 4 Vivelle patches every other day. I've had to order the meds from Freedom every week now. I wonder what the FedEx person thinks with all these deliveries.

As for how I'm feeling physically, I am severely nauseous. I usually don't do nausea really well in the first place, but this has really drained me. I've been getting only about 4 hours of sleep each night. I have a prescription for Zofran, but I haven't taken it yet. Although I've been told that it's "safe" for pg women, there hasn't been studies that it's actually safe. I'm going to try to hold off as long as I can. Luckily, our insurance covers it so we only have to pay $60 for 12 pills. Compared to fertility meds, it's "cheap" so we're not complaining.

I have another bloodwork next Wednesday to re-check my hormone levels. Hopefully I can be weaned off these meds soon. Then on April 1st, I have an appointment with my OB. So it's another two weeks away. Isn't it funny how my life is always a 2 week wait...

Your baby is beautiful! Congratulations again! Most wonderful feeling in the world, isn't it? Even when you're going about your daily usual routine, driving anywhere etc, there's this little happy glow over everything, isn't it? :-)

Good luck next Wednesday! Sorry about the nausea - but that's a good sign!

Ahh yes - and thank you for pointing out your "little grain of rice"! U/s photos always looke like a bunch of fuzz to me so the help was appreciated. I am so thrilled for you and glad that the spotting has stopped. I know you're taking the nausea as a good thing even though it is hard to live with. I know that fresh ginger root is supposed to be good for nausea and safe for pregnant woman to take so that may help you out.

Beautiful u/s pic! so glad that blood was just a SCH!!! I am so happy for you guys. I'd freak out if the nurses did that to me too! They are used to regular pregnant women not us obsessive people who would wrap ourselves in bubblewrap for 9 months if we could!

Congrats and what a sweet picture of your little one.

Those pelvic exams are very routine and rule out alot of things that could effect a pregnancy. You will not have another one until 36 weeks or so..

Congrats again... a happy and healthy 9 months to you

Just a quick comment on Zofran. I took it for my nausea also. It is very constipating!! Beware! But does help for sure!

What a wonderful u/s!!! And what a jerk for invading your private parts at such a critical time ... I bet you were furious!

So glad things are going well. It's such a miracle!

The picture is wonderful! I bet it makes it all the more real for you and Jerry. I'd have been v upset too with someone prodding around that roughly. I hope the nausea becomes more manageable soon. It must be awful, but as they say, it's the sign of a strong pregnancy. Congrats to you both for hitting this milestone. I can't wait to follow along with you.

What a lovely little bean! Thanks for sharing that. Hope the nausea gets better--I had it 24/7 for a while and it is NO FUN.

BTW--a big, fat BOO to the NP for going against your wishes. Is there elsewhere you could go, or maybe make sure you don't see her in particular again at that practice? Either way--shame on her for leaving you with a bad feeling at what should have been a wonderful appointment. (((Hugs.)))

Congratulations Linda, what wonderful news. It must have been so special to see your baby for the first time. It doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy (despite the nausea and that foolish nurse) xxx

Congrats to you and your husband! I came across your blog as I was doing research since my husband has the same 13:15 Robertsonian translocation. We are just starting our first IVF cycle (with PGD, of course). Your story gives me hope. I wish you all the best!

CONGRATS and beautiful grain of rice! The pelvic exam and pushing on your tummy won't do harm to your baby. They are protected and deep under the p.ubic bone. *HUGS* They should've been more communicative about the process.

"That foolish nurse" had a job to do. If you had an STD that wasn't diagnosed soon enough I'm quite sure you would be rushing to a lawyers office ASAP. Yeah, and just remembember NO ONE EVER admits they have an STD. Therefore everyone gets checked.

No harm to your lovely little spec of rice embedded in the peanut butter lining.

Foolish patient!
